My neighbor, Danielle Smith, is running for Concord School Board. I support her candidacy.
Danielle and I have lived in the same neighborhood since 2008. She is an acquaintance whom I’ve come to admire over these mercurial years. Danielle is kind, thoughtful and compassionate.
Danielle knew our daughter was forced to enter an online homeschooling program. She consistently asks about our daughter’s health. Through this crisis, I learned that Danielle is a good listener and an introspective, caring, person. Danielle relayed a story to me the other day about her son, Houston.
A few days back, Houston picked out a tee shirt to wear to school with the words “Be Kind” written in front. He wanted to communicate a message to a peer who has difficulty controlling his temper. Houston thought this quiet, but significant action would help to make things better in class for everyone. His empathy for another kid, who obviously is struggling, did not come out of a vacuum. Houston’s behavior speaks of the parenting behind this thought and action for someone so young.
I believe that Danielle’s kindness and ability to quietly listen to all concerns will allow her to be an effective member for the Concord School Board. If she can inspire and motivate an older parent and her recovering daughter, imagine what her kindheartedness can do for the whole Concord community.
