ConcordExplore Saturn at Discovery Center

Exploring Saturn, its rings and moons will be the topic at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., when Dr. Ghanim Al Jumaily discusses his involvement with NASA’s Cassini Mission and gives an update on the mission’s findings. Department chairman of Southern New Hampshire University’s new College of Engineering, Technology and Aeronautics, Dr. Al Jumaily was an integral part of the Cassini Mission team. With a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico, a master’s degree in optics from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Baghdad, Dr. Jumaily has put his engineering skills to work on key NASA missions that have expanded human knowledge of the solar system and universe: Cassini, Mars Pathfinder and Hubble Space Telescope. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; all-inclusive cost for the Cassini presentation and exploration of the Discovery Center’s exhibit galleries is $10 for adults, $9 for students and seniors, $7 for children ages three to 12 years old, and free for members and for children ages zero to two years. Pending clear skies, the N.H. Astronomical Society will be outside the Discovery Center with telescopes.

ConcordFall Festivus

The Junior Service League of Concord will host Fall Festivus on Nov. 4 at the Lakes Region Tent and Event in Concord. The event will feature craft beer tasting, wine tasting, samples from local restaurants, music, a photo booth, a silent auction and other surprises. Proceeds from Fall Festivus will benefit JSL community initiatives. Gold sponsors for the event include St. Paul’s School, Upton and Hatfield, Sagris Enterprises and Merrimack County Savings Bank.
