Kevin Morris had the first hat trick of his career as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Worcester Railers, 6-3, in a road victory. The victory marked the first for the Monarchs (7-3-0-1) over the Railers (5-4-1-0) this season. Manchester took a 4-0 lead to start the game and kept Worcester off the board until late in the second period. The Monarchs had a 5-2 lead heading into the third before the Railers had a goal just over two minutes into the final frame to cut the deficit. The Monarchs were efficient on the power play, netting three goals with the man advantage, including a pair from Morris. Michael Doherty, Tony Cameranesi and Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman netted the other Monarchs goals.
The No. 4 Colgate womenโs ice hockey team defeated the University of New Hampshire, 2-1. The Wildcats took a 1-0 first-period lead thanks to a power-play goal from Carlee Turner, but the Raiders responded with a goal in the second and third. Amy Schlagel and Tori Howran assisted on Turnerโs goal. Goaltender Ava Boutilier made 36 saves in the losing effort. UNH is now 6-3-3 while Colgate improved to 11-1-0.
The Concord Capitols varsity team defeated ConVal, 36-14, while the JV team defeated Pembroke, 42-0, in their respective semifinal games. Both teams play in their championship games on Saturday under the lights at Memorial Field. JV kicks off at 5 p.m. and varsity starts at 7 p.m.
The St. Paulโs School boysโ varsity cross country team finished 11th out of 14 teams at the NEPSTA Division I Championship at Choate-Rosemary Hall. Ben Leach led the way for the Big Red, finishing 19th in 16:58 and earning All-New England honors. Alex Taylor (38th, 17:34) and James Pirozzolo (64th, 18:12) rounded out the top three for St. Paulโs.
The St. Paulโs JV boys cross country team tied for second at the NEPSTA Championships, but the Big Red had the better sixth runner in Lucas Spiro, giving St. Paulโs sole possession of second place after the tiebreaker. Adam Tayhar (12th, 18:13) and Nick Rusher (20th, 18:35) led St. Paulโs.
The St. Paulโs girlsโ varsity cross country team finished fifth out of 13 teams at the NEPSTA Championship. Frances Margaret Gehrke won the individual title in a course-record time of 18:08. Rowan Macy (33rd, 21:02), Linda Pang (40th, 21:28), Annie Lee (21:33), Kate Tapscott (21:33) and Bristole Fales-Hill (21:35) finished 42nd, 43rd and 44th. Amelia Walters (52nd, 22:10) rounded out St. Paulโs runners.
The St. Paulโs JV girlsโ cross country team placed sixth at the NEPSTA Championships. Cole Sias (27th, 23:04), Ariane Bretl (29th, 23:11), Elo Catlin (36th, 23:31), Izzy Parisien (37th, 23:32) and Olivia Chuang (45th, 24:08) scored for St. Paulโs.
Seacoast United Cubs Baseball Club will be offering specialized skills classes for players in the Concord area. The 12-week classes will be offered from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays. It will include classes such as General Skill Development, Gap-to-Gap Hittersโ Clinic, Strike-One Pitchersโ Clinic and Caught Stealing Catchersโ Clinic. Cap City Basketball is hosting six clinics in November for players in kindergarten through 10th grade. Four of the clinics (Nov. 19, Nov. 24 and Nov. 26) will be held at the Concord Boys & Girls Club with K-5 going from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while grades 6-10 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. The Nov. 22 clinic will be held at Bishop Brady High School with K-5 going from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and grades 6-10 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Cost is $25 per clinic or $100 for all six, which includes a free Cap City headband. Nordic ski lessons offered through the Concord Nordic BKL via Concord Parks & Recreation, can teach children how to ski and offer training for the more experienced skier, as well as opportunities to learn about Nordic racing. John Stark Fall Sports Awards Night for all athletes, parents and family will take place on Monday. The evening will start in the cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. for dessert before moving to the gym at 6:00 where all teams will be recognized and Sportsmanship and Scholar-Athlete awards will be presented. The evening will conclude by programs moving into individual classrooms for team specific recognition.
