The Concord High boys’ and girls’ Nordic teams both picked up victories in a meet on Saturday at ConVal. Nate Nichols, Cameron Brochu and Ollie Spencer swept the top three places for the boys, while Heather Deacon and Kaitlyn Watt finished second and fourth in the girls’ race. Antonino Tomas (seventh) was the fourth scorer for the boys and Brenna McNamara and Johanne Nichols finished sixth and seventh to round out the scorers for the girls. The Tide boys tallied 391 points, easily besting Lebanon (372), Hanover (359), Plymouth (358), Souhegan (249) and ConVal (81). The Concord girls (385 points) also won by a comfortable margin over Hanover (367), Lebanon (364), Plymouth (348), Souhegan (246) and ConVal (100).
The Merrimack Valley boys’ basketball team clinched a Tri-County League playoff spot with a 72-63 win over Hollis-Brookline. Ben Rose led the way for the Pride with 21 points. Gavin Wheeler added 18 and Gabe Marquis chipped in with 16.
The Unitil Concord Capitals lost to Hanover, 5-2, and Back Bay, 6-1. Gabe Carr and Cam Carter scored against Hanover and Keller Ramshaw assisted. Against Back Bay, Isaak Davis had the lone goal. Damon Corbet played tough against Back Bay.
The Beauregard Equipment Concord Capitals U10 girls tied the Lady Crusaders, 4-4. Claire Eccleston had a hat trick and Ali Cabot also scored. Annabelle Norwalt had two assists with Lyrah Lydon and Mackenzie Gallagher each adding one. Beauregard also defeated the Hanover Wild, 7-2. Eccleston (three goals), Gallagher (two goals), Cabot and Hannah Pawlowski scored for Concord. Eccleston, Gallagher, Pawlowski, Haley Pinette and Sydney Brown recorded assists.
The Concord Capitals Brochu Nursery & Landscaping Pee Wee I squad lost to Concord-Carlisle, 5-2. Avery Condon scored for the Capitals on assists from Evan Crandlemire and Nathaniel Johnson. Cam Plumb also tallied a goal on an assist from William Brochu. Colin Logan and Brady Cloutier both played well in goal.
The Bow K fifth- and sixth-grade boys’ basketball team improved to 4-0 with a win over New Boston 2. Eli Berrigan led the offense with eight points. Patrick Walton (four points) and Aidyn Rainey guided a strong defense with big efforts up and down the court.
The Concord Recreation fifth- and sixth-grade Christa McAuliffe Blue Knights boys’ team beat Broken Ground 1 Maroon, 26-15. Christa McAuliffe was led by Magnus Watkins, Ian Hughes and JP Nzeyimana on offense. For Broken Ground, Connor McIntyre played great defense.
Franklin High School will be celebrating Hoops For Hunger Week next on Monday through Feb. 2. Anyone who brings at least two non-perishable food items to the boys’ home game against Belmont on Jan. 30 or to the girls’ home game against Newport on Feb. 2 will get free admission. Cash donations are also accepted and all proceeds will go to the Bread and Roses Food Kitchen in Franklin.

Cap City Basketball AAU tryouts will be held on Feb. 10, Feb. 24 and March 11 for boys and girls in grades 2-10. Players must attend tryouts on all three dates. There will be at least one team for every age group for boys and girls for the upcoming spring season. All tryouts will be held at Bishop Brady High School. Tryout times (same on all three dates) for grades 2-4 will be 2-3:20 p.m., grades 5-7 will be 3:30-4:45 p.m. and grades 8-10 will be 4:45-6 p.m. Cost is $30 in cash or $35 with a check and covers all three tryout dates. Little Strikers Indoor Soccer Clinics, hosted by FieldHouse Sports, is accepting registrations for the next session for ages 3-6. The next five-week session begins this Saturday and meets on Saturday mornings. The cost for Mini Strikers (age 3-4) is $40, and Little Strikers (age 5-6) is $50. Plymouth State University Softball clinics will start on Sunday with special guests Dick Blood, the former head coach at Cornell University, and Harold Sachs, the former Salem High coach and current pitching coach at Merrimack College. Blood will lead a hitting clinic from 9-10:30 a.m., and Sachs will holding a pitching clinic from 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost for these is $40 per player. Four more clinics will be led by Plymouth State softball coaches and players and will be held on four separate Saturdays; Feb. 3, 17 and 24 and March 3, from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost is $30 per player. There is also a team discount – if five or more players from the same team/league particpate, the cost is $15 per player. All clinics will take place in the Bank of New Hampshire Fieldhouse. FieldHouse Sports Soccer Skills and Goalkeeping Clinics will begin on Feb. 5. Six-week clinics (for players ages 6-60 of all abilities) meet on Monday afternoons and are directed by Jorge Pardo, director of Caramba Soccer Camps. Merrimack Valley baseball players and coaches will conduct their annual youth clinic series beginning in February. The clinic is geared for players age 8-12. The sessions are Feb. 11, Feb. 18, March 4 and March 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The other three sessions are scheduled for March 12 , March 14 and March 16 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. The clinics are held at Merrimack Valley Middle School.
