A petition drive has been started to allow residents in Lebanon to vote on the electronic bingo game keno after the City Council rejected putting it on the ballot.

The council earlier this month voted against a measure that would have allowed voters to decide the fate of the gambling game. Portsmouth’s City Council made a similar decision last year.

Seven cities approved keno last year. Play started in December.

The Valley News reports American Legion Post 22 is helping to circulate the petition to put the keno question on the city’s March ballot. Members say the question should be left up to the voters. Signatures are due Wednesday.

Most revenue will go to New Hampshire’s full-day kindergarten program.
