If there’s one player on the Franklin boys’ basketball team who can turn a game on its head, it’s Jayden Torres. And that was on full display Friday night.
The diminutive guard for the Golden Tornadoes notched 47 points – a new school record – during a 78-64 win over Raymond to earn the Monitor Player of the Week Award.
Torres, the leading scorer in Division III, was on pace for a decent night in the first half, scoring five points in the first quarter and 10 more in the second before catching fire in the game’s final 16 minutes.
Torres scored 32 points in the second half – 16 in each quarter – to lead Franklin (2-12) to its first home win of the season.
With four games remaining, Torres is 84 points shy of 1,000 for his career. Franklin hosts Newfound on Tuesday.
