The Pawtucket Red Sox will temporarily become the Hot Wieners in honor of the Rhode Island delicacy.
WJAR-TV reported the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox will wear jerseys with the new name, complete with a new logo featuring a dog in a flaming bun, during a game against the Durham Bulls Aug. 16.
PawSox representative Rob Crain said the hot wiener “all the way” is a “taste of Rhode Island,” and he hopes residents will enjoy the chance to have a little fun during the game.
Merchandise bearing the new name and logo is currently available online.
The hot wiener, or New York System wiener, is a hot dog made with veal and pork and traditionally topped with celery salt, mustard, chopped onions and a meat sauce.
