Some come in funny pink costumes, some show up with their loved ones and friends, but everyone arrives with the hope there will be no need for a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in the near future.

Kathi Russ, 2018 volunteer event chairwoman, echoed that sentiment as she addressed the crowd at Memorial Field on Sunday, even as the group raised $468,671 this year. The Concord walk has traditionally been one of the best fundraising cancer walks per-capita in the country.

“This year was particularly special as we honored and celebrated some very young survivors, who courageously were beacons of hope for us all. It was also special to have the combination of many new teams of people supporting those who have just been diagnosed as well as many teams that make Making Strides a tradition,” said Russ.
