Visitors to the Broken Ground conservation area have some new, authorized trails to explore.
A partnership between the city of Concord and the New England Mountain Bike Association allowed the association to build an additional 1.1 miles of mountain biking trails Saturday. Matt Bowser, of the association’s central New Hampshire chapter, said 22 volunteers showed up to take part in the effort.
The city has more than 30 miles of bike-specific trails that snake through a patchwork of city-owned and privately owned land, and any proposed alterations must be approved by the conservation commission and the trails subcommittee.
Sometimes, however, rouge community members create their own paths, which are not allowed. Bowser has said Broken Ground and the Marjory Swope Park trails are the most-plagued by those unauthorized trail makers.
