If you’ve gone a bit rusty on Shakespeare since your British Literature class, Concord High School students are hoping to catch you up to speed.
They’re hoping to get through 37 plays in just 90 minutes when they perform The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged, Revised.
Director Clint Klose said the show is basically a group of actors who know nothing about Shakespeare who, by the end of the show, think they know everything.
Though the tragedies will be there along with the comedies, if there are any tears, they’ll be from laughter.
The play, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, is packed with humorous moments, from side comments to physical jests to audience participation.
They at least mention every Shakespeare play, and summarize a few, in a unique, contemporary way.
There are moments where the cast must improv, too, which Klose said is good for the students to learn to do. He added that he and some of the students saw the play at last year’s New England Theatre Festival, which Concord High competes in biennially. He thought it would be a good non-musical play for the students to put on this fall.
The 11 member cast will play multiple roles, including themselves.
“It’s just a funny, funny show,” Klose said.
Showtimes will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Concord High. Tickets are $10 adults or $8 for students and seniors.
