Hopkinton High School drama students will perform Once Upon a Mattress on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The show is being directed by Paula Demers with musical direction by Bridgett Gattie.
Once Upon a Mattress is a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. It is based on the fairy tale of the Princess and the Pea.
But there’s a bit of a twist. The princess doesn’t travel through a storm, she eagerly swims the moat.
And she’s not the first princess to be tested by the queen, she’s the 13th. No one in the kingdom can wed until the prince does, but the queen seems to think no one is good enough for her son.
There is still a test with a pea under 20 mattresses, but there are several other tests as well.
Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. You can reserve tickets at the school office or purchase up to an hour before the show, at the door.
