The article in the Jan. 29 Concord Monitor about the Challenger disaster fails to mention that President Ronald Reagan was going to make a national speech that evening, which many thought was the reason the risky launch was approved.
Another article in the same paper about the minimum wage reminded me that during my four years in the N.H. Legislature at the turn of the century, there was a bill to give New Hampshire a minimum wage above that of the federal minimum wage. The Republican Party sent four of their members to the floor, each with a different reason not to do so. The fourth astounded me. He stated a higher minimum wage would take many off welfare! That was, in his mind, a bad thing.
