On Feb. 26, 18 county and municipal representatives voted to take away the right of citizens to vote by official ballot on whether they want to have the SB 2 form of town and school town meetings.

For those who don’t know, SB 2 towns vote on the ballot at the polls and not in the meeting, where all can stand and speak unless someone moves the question, as so often happens.

So we are smart enough as voters to vote for these 18 close-minded representatives but not smart enough to know we want to be able to vote on all town warrant articles by Australian ballots? Or maybe they believe Cordell Johnston, lobbyist for the N.H. Municipal Association, that we are poorly served when we have the right to vote by ballot and that he knows what’s best.

I will never give in to legislators who think they know better than the voters what’s good for them in their form of town meeting. So if they should win this bill on the House floor, I will fight till my death to have legislation that allows citizens the right to vote by ballot on all articles at town or school meetings.

Let’s hope that of the 400 representatives on the House floor voting on House Bill 415, we have sanity and brains enough to acknowledge that if voters can vote for representatives on a ballot we also have brains enough to vote for SB 2 on a ballot.
