Concord Special election scheduled for June

A date has been set for the special election to fill Ward 4’s soon to be vacant seat.

Residents will be able to sign up for a June 4 special election starting April 5 through April 15, according to a report from city clerk Janice Bonifant.

The election is needed after current Ward 4 Councilor Byron Champlin secured an empty at-large seat this Tuesday during a city-wide special election. He, along with Ward 10 special election winner Zandra Rice Hawkins, will be sworn in at Monday’s city council meeting.

Champlin, Rice Hawkins and the future winner of the Ward 4 special election’s terms will expire on Dec. 31. A regular city election will take place in November.
