A Concord man was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for unlawfully possessing firearms and ammunition.
Nathaniel Carr, 25, previously pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in December to charges stemming from separate incidents in the city in August. He will serve 63 months in prison as part of a plea deal reached with the U.S. Attorneyโs Office.
Concord police arrested Carr on Aug. 1 after observing him drive away from a Loudon Road convenience store in a Chevrolet Trailblazer with expired temporary license plates. An officer approached Carr shortly after while he was sitting in the parked vehicle in a nearby parking lot. When Carr opened the driverโs side door, the officer saw a .22 caliber revolver and a box of ammunition. Carr, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
Weeks later, police executed a search warrant of Carrโs residence in connection with an ongoing drug investigation. Officers seized more than 50 rounds of ammunition,ย a .380 caliber pistol and a .12 gauge shotgun shell. Officers also found methamphetamine and fentanyl in the kitchen.
Local and federal authorities investigated Carr as part of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agencyโs Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, a program aimed at reducing gun violence through public education and law enforcement training.
