Six New Hampshire choreographers will have Ballet Misha perform their new works Saturday at the Concord City Auditorium.
NSquared Dance, based out of New York City, will also perform.
The six choreographers are Ballet Misha Director Amy Fortier, Mari Frederique-Streitburger, Alyssa Desruisseaux, Tina Philibotte, and NSquared Dance directors Nick Neagle and Zackery Betty. The performance will feature seven original pieces.
โMy work often evokes a memory of another artwork, period, or place. One of my ballets resembles a Degas painting, and another reminds me of Magritteโs work because the dancers have umbrellas and bowler hats. In our time when things change so quickly, I like to look back to what came before us,โ Fortier said in a release.
Desruisseaux, a faculty member at Ballet Mishaโs affiliate school Dimensions in Dance, choreographed a huge work, โSuit Convergence,โ for 25 dancers, including Ballet Misha company members and students of Dimensions in Dance.
Philibotte, a Goffstown High School English teacher by day, and founder of the Goffstown High school dance program MoDaCo, the only public school dance program in the state, has choreographed the piece โJoyas Voladoras,โ which means Flying Jewels. The works incorporate Brian Doyleโs highly anthologized essay by the same name, and examines how we invest our 2 billion heartbeats in the course of a lifetime.
โDancers bring their own experiences into the work through small moments within the choreography, making the work unusually intimate, yet altogether relatable,โ Philibotte said in a release.
โAlthough we have performed all over the state, this is our first time performing in Concord, and I am really excited to perform at the Audi,โ Fortier said in a release.
There will be a reception at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. at the Audi. Tickets are $25, and are available at balletmisha.com or at the door. Call 668-4196 or visit balletmisha.com for more information.
