Michael Tibbetts, 45, of Berwick, Maine, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was behind the wheel of a blue and white 1996 Ford LTL hauling a white 2001 utility box trailer when the truck tore through approximately 200 feet of guardrail before coming to a stop, according to state police.

Tibbetts was not injured in the crash.

Investigators determined that impairment was a factor in the crash. Tibbetts was arrested on several charges, including possession of a controlled drug, transporting drugs in a motor vehicle, DUI, negligent driving,  misuse of plates, unregistered vehicle, and lane control.

He was released on recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court on May 29, at 8:15 am.

The crash forced the closure of multiple lanes on Interstate 89 South in Bow for around five hours until the tractor-trailer was removed from the scene.
