I want to thank Chuck Douglas for having the courage to admonish the Trump presidential behavior (Monitor Opinion, March 23). He is the first N.H. Republican leader to hold the president accountable for his disrespectful behavior. We can always debate the merits of Trump’s proposed policies, but surely no one can condone Trump’s continued insolent behavior. I know that some of my Republican colleagues in the N.H. House have been embarrassed by the unpresidential nature of the Trump approach to “leadership.” Hopefully, more Republican leaders will take Douglas’s cue and stop enabling Trump’s lack of civility. Public respect for the office of the president of the United States, regardless of party affiliation, has been denigrated because of Trump’s disrespectful and embarrassing behavior.
