Sonya LeClair from the Reluctant Enthusiast has partnered with Tony McBee from New England Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy to offer, “Intro to Women’s Outdoor Self- Defense” – a class specifically designed for women who explore the outdoors. Presented as an introduction to self-defense, this class aims to empower women to take decisive and effective action if their personal safety is ever threatened while isolated on the trails. The workshop will feature defensive movements from Brazilian jiu jitsu and will cover the importance of situational awareness, the reality of outdoor violent crime, and escapes from several common holds – including a jarring backpack grab. Participants also will have an opportunity to practice the movements one-on-one with a partner. If you’re a woman who hikes, bikes, runs, or otherwise enjoys time outdoors, this is a class you won’t want to miss. It is scheduled for May 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the New England Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy located at 30 Henniker St., Suite 9 in Concord. Registration is $49 per person, with a 20% discount if you sign up with a friend.
