■The Suncook Senior Center will be closed Memorial Day.
■St. John the Baptist Memorial Day Mass this year will be celebrated on Monday at 9 a.m. in the cemetery. In case of rain the Mass will be held in the church. Flowers may be placed on the graves as early as Friday, and all items placed on the ground at the cemetery for Memorial Day must be removed by June 6.
■The Allenstown Fire Department is hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross on Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Allenstown Fire Station, 1 Ferry St. A donation is a life saving gift.
■Gentle Chair Yoga is held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Suncook Senior Center.
■Pastel Drawing class is held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Suncook Senior Center. Class cost $7.50 per class or $45 for a six-week session, including material.

■On June 1, the library’s Down-Under Book Store is having their summer kick-off sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A perfect chance to pick up your “beach readers.” Several sections have moved to different locations; take the time to browse and see all the different choices. DVD’s are now in the main room and sheet music is available. There is also a special section by the back door for “free” books. There may even be a few plants left for sale!
■Plan ahead for June 3 when representatives from N.H. Fish & Game will have a presentation on black bears in the library community room at 7 p.m. There will be fur exhibits and tracking. Great for kids and adults; no sign-up required.
■On June 8, the fire station will host a yard sale. More info to come next week.
■On June 10, you can sign up now for a basket-making class, to be held at the library at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required; the cost is $12 as this will be a large basket. You can call 798-5613 or stop in to sign up.
■The Concord Homeless Resource Center is asking for seasonal items: Sunscreen, bug repellent, tick repellent, chapstick and ponchos. You can leave these items at The Out of Your Attic Thrift Shop in Chichester (Route 28 North, next to Parker’s) You can also leave items for the Liberty House Veterans in Manchester; simply mark the bag who it should go to and it will be delivered The Attic is also a drop-off point for food for the Chichester Food Pantry.

■Youth Fishing Derby will be June 1 in Epsom from 8 to 11 a.m. at 251 Center Hill Road, Epsom. The derby is sponsored by Evergreen Lodge No. 53 IOOF and Post 112 American Legion. This also coincides with Fish N.H. Free Day, so after 11:30 a.m. adults can fish without a license. We stock over 300 trout in the pond and traditionally the youth catch 60 to 90 during the derby. The remaining trout are fair game open to public fishing throughout the year.
■On June 3, work will begin to install the new water line beginning near Goboro Road on Route 4 and making its way along Route 4 into the traffic circle, and then onto Route 28 North. Most of the work will be completed off the roadway but may cause some delays. Work will be performed during the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The duration of construction has not yet been determined. Please consider this when traveling through the area.

■Story times at the Epsom Library will take place Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
■Wednesday’s movie matinee at the library is On the Basis of Sex. The film is based on the true story of young attorney Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her fight for equal rights that made her one of the most important figures of our time.

■Mahjong continues to be played Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m.

■Don’t miss the annual Elwood O. Wells American Legion Post 112 Memorial Day Celebration on Monday to honor all veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. The event will be held at 1044 Short Falls Road. Services at outlying cemeteries include a bugler, prayers to remember the fallen, gun salutes, and flowers starting at 7:15 a.m. at the New Rye Cemetery, proceeding to the Center Hill Cemetery, and the McClary Cemetery. Next, indoor services at the Post begin about 9:30 a.m. Be there about 9:15 for a seat. Military selections will be performed by the famous Epsom Town Band. There will be presentations of awards for essay contest winners from Epsom and Chichester schools. An honored guest will speak. Then we will form a parade to the River and then on to the Short Falls cemetery, to honor our fallen comrades. Finally, we will adjourn back to the post to enjoy a free hot dog luncheon provided by the town of Epsom and prepared and served by Post 112 members. This year is special as it marks the 100th year of the American Legion.
■Our final band and choir concert for the school year will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the ECS gym. We are looking forward to sharing with you all the music we have been working on.
■Elks Lodge 1210 will be in charge of the Flag Day retirement ceremony this year and that has not been scheduled as yet. Post 112 and the Boy Scouts will be participants. People can drop off their non-serviceable flags at town hall, the library or post office before June 10.
■Save the dates for July 15 to 26 for Epsom swimming lessons at the Pittsfield Town Beach.
■ECS Kindergarten Parent Information Night on June 6 at 4 p.m., we will be holding an information session in Ms. Cheney’s Room 223 for parents of children entering kindergarten in the 2019-20 school year. This session will run about 45 minutes and will be a brief overview on what you can expect for your child’s first year of school. Joy Cheney and Lori Bryant, as well as Cynthia Learson, the school nurse, will be on hand to answer all your questions. This meeting is for parents only, as we will hold a special orientation for the children in August.

■The concerned veterans of Pittsfield will be holding a Memorial Day observance today at the Veterans Memorial, located in Dustin Park, on Main Street at 1 p.m. Veterans and community organizations are invited to participate in this event.
