After a period of dormancy, Danbury’s American Legion Lee Knapp Post No. 96 is on the comeback. Chartered in 1947, the post was named after Lieutenant Lee H. Knapp of Danbury who died in France during World War I. Danbury’s Legion has hosted many community events over the years, but more recent history has seen a decline in post activity. A membership drive was held last fall and members are now meeting regularly. One of their first priorities is to get their hall back in good shape.

Originally built as a grain store, the building is across the road from Blazing Star Grange No. 71 in Danbury’s downtown area. Members of the Grange will be supporting local veterans in their goal to restore the Legion building by hosting a chicken barbecue fundraiser on June 15 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A full homemade and delicious meal will include ¼-barbequed chicken, home baked beans, assorted salads and dessert. The meal may be enjoyed in the historic Grange Hall, or will be available for takeout. The barbeque will be held rain or shine at Blazing Star Grange Hall, 15 North Road, Danbury, N.H. Suggested donation of $9 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and free for children under 3. All who attend will be making a big difference in supporting the revitalization of an important local organization. For more information about the supper, call 252-4440.
