■Pittsfield Historical Society is hosting “Tales of New England Life: Four Stories by Alice Brown.” Alice Brown, born in 1857, was known for her short stories depicting the simplicity and goodness of country life. The Pontine Theater has selected four tales to bring to life on stage: Farmer’s Eli’s Vacation (1895), Gardener Jim (1910), A Poetess in Spring (1910) and The Flat Iron Lot (1899). This program, hosted by the Pittsfield Historical Society, will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Pittsfield Community Center, 74 Main St.
■Only $1,500 is needed to complete the final phase of the Floral Park Cemetery Fence. Thanks to your generosity, $14,599 has already been collected out of a total of $16,025. The fence is scheduled to be installed sometime in August. Send in your donations to “Town of Pittsfield,” and note on the check it is for the Floral Park Cemetery Fence Fund. ■The flower angels have begun their work, and soon you will see these hanging baskets gracing downtown. Each handmade basket – there are 40 of them – costs approximately $25 to make and plant. A very small group of volunteers do all the work, including daily watering. ■The Pittsfield Youth Workshop is accepting registrations for the Craft Fair at this year’s Suncook Valley Rotary Hot Air Balloon Rally on August 3. This annual event draws 8,000 to 10,000 visitors. ■The Pittsfield Youth Workshop (PYW) has finalized the 2019 summer schedule. A few of the fun and exciting trips being planned include Gunstock Adventure Park (sponsored by Suncook Valley Rotary Club), Squam Lake Science Center, Canobie Lake Park, Water Country, canoeing, Hilltop Fun Center, Smiity’s movies (Lion King), swimming at Ellacoya State Park and disc golf. It will be collaborating with Kingswood Youth Center to take a hike and eight weeks of outdoor rock climbing. PYW’s Drop-In Center will be open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 6 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
■On Thursday, PYW will be holding an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. for new youth and parents to check out the Drop-In Center and for everyone to sign up for summer trips and activities. Yearly membership dues are $25 per child, with a maximum of $50 per family.
