■Family Movie on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. will be “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.” Snacks and drinks provided.

The Public, which will be presented on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., is a film 12 years in the making. After reading a 2007 Los Angeles Times essay, “Written Off,” by Salt Lake City librarian Chip Ward, Emilio Estevez began to research the connection between public libraries and the homelessness epidemic. The result? A moving and entertaining film that tackles crucial topics while spotlighting the work of public libraries and the librarians who have a “love of books and people.”

PITTSFIELDOld Home Day

■Old Home Day is Saturday. The theme this year is “Christmas In July.” A full schedule of events is listed on the town website at pittsfieldnh.gov. Programs are available at the town hall, post office and local stores. Main Street will be closed – from the corner of Main and Elm to the Citizen Bank exit – from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the car show and parade during Old Home Day.

■We want to decorate Dustin Park with the largest paperchain garland for Old Home Day – we’ll be looking for all groups, churches, clubs and community members to make some chains. We suggest using 11-by-2 inch paper in any colors. Completed chains can be dropped off at the library, Jitters Café or Epping Well through Thursday.

■Decorate a tomato cage into a Christmas tree, angel, reindeer or any other holiday decoration and bring it to Drake Field on July 13 by 8:30 p.m., before the fireworks, and the public will judge them in a contest for Old Home Day. Power will be available. There will be a $50 cash prize to the winner. The approximate time for fireworks in 9:15 p.m., at dusk.

■The Old Home Day cook-off this year is Christmas cookies. Bake a batch, 3 dozen, of your favorite Christmas cookies and deliver them by 9 a.m. on Saturday to Dustin Park at the 4-H booth. Winners will be chosen by popular vote. Cash prizes will be awarded – $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. ■Santa’s Mailbox will be at the Pittsfield Post Office until Saturday for letters to Santa for Old Home Day. Letters can also be mailed to Santa Claus at 91 Joy St. Include your mailing address to receive a reply from one of Santa’s elves.

■The Suncook Valley Rotary Club will be sponsoring the movie Polar Express on Friday to kick off Old Home Day. The movie is free and is under the stars at Drake Field. The approximate start time is 8:30 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket. Refreshments will be available to purchase. Rotary’s Walk Through Balloon will be set up at Drake Field from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

■The Old Home Day Car Show on Main Street will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The first 60 participating cars will receive a $5 voucher from select vendors. Bring your vintage, classic, hot rod, rat rod or just cool car or truck. There will also be a Touch-A-Truck area.

■The Color Fun Run 2019 – sponsored by the PMHS Booster Club and PES PTO – will be held Saturday. This is a 3K family-friendly, fundraising color run. ■Park Street Baptist Church will host a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday. St. Stephen’s Church will hold a silent auction and offer its Sidewalk Café for food.

■The Community Fair will be starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Dustin Park with music, vendors, local organizations, games, crafts, face painting, JuJuBee the clown/balloon twister, a karate demonstration by United Martial Arts Academy, Tricky Dick’s Magic Show and a Cookie Walk. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The current historical society will be open. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting Dustin Park.

■The Kids Bike Parade will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. Decorate your bike, wagon or scooter and meet on Main Street for a mini parade. There will be prizes for the top three winners.

■At 1 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a parade with bands, floats, emergency vehicles, cars and trucks and special guests, including Smokey Bear, who is celebrating his 75th birthday, and Santa and Mrs. Claus. Organizations, churches, neighborhoods and businesses are all encouraged to participate in the parade. ■The town beach at F.B. Argue Recreation Area will be open for free swim after the parade Saturday, and there will also be a cookout for $3 per person.

■“Adopt A Duck Race” will be held at the town beach at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ducks may be purchased for $5 each or three for $10. All money raised benefits the PMHS Girls Basketball program. There is also one prize of half the money collected. ■Youth leaders with Pittsfield Youth Voice in it Together (PYViiT) are accepting applications for their 2019–20 cohort. If you are a high school-aged young person in Pittsfield, PYViiT invites you to apply. Learn and practice leadership skills, go on trips, make a difference in your school and community and have fun.
