Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at the men’s prison in Concord late on Sunday.
The Concord Fire Department received a call reporting smoke at the low-security, transitional living facility at 275 North State St. near the New Hampshire State Prison for Men, said Chief John Chisholm.
Crews extinguished the fire within an hour and a half, he estimated.
The flames and damage were confined to a bathroom, a spokesperson for the state’s Department of Safety told the Monitor. No injuries were reported.
“They mitigated it pretty quickly,” Chisholm said.
Inmates were temporarily evacuated and stood in a line behind the building.
“They were able to go back in, so nobody was displaced or anything,” Chisholm said.
The state fire marshal’s office and Department of Corrections are investigating the cause and origins of the fire.
The state prison is one of the most frequent users of Concord’s emergency services. The fire department logged 228 responses there last year.
