As we recall the moonwalk of 50 years ago, there has been more talk of NASA’s next “race.” Some talk of sending a human to Mars as the next frontier. I have been glad to hear and read Lori Garver, former NASA deputy administrator, encouraging a priority on developing understanding of the workings of climate change, and on developing ways to slow and cope with the changes. She points out that NASA already does a lot of climate science work and is in the best position to provide intercommunication and leadership among other institutions and nations working on solutions and responses. Let’s not focus on sending a few humans to Mars when we need to find ways to provide water, food and a livable climate for all creatures on this planet.
