BOW‘Bend the Ride’

■The 2019 Bow Rotary free summer concert series continues with tonight’s performance by “Bend the Ride.” “Honest Millie” will round out the 2019 concert series. All concerts, weather permitting, are held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bow Bandstand. Bring your chair or blanket, and share these great free concerts with your friends and neighbors. Should it rain, the concerts may be moved inside the community building.

■On Wednesday, the Bow Young at Heart Club will hold its meeting at the White Rock Senior Living Center, 6 Bow Center Road, to share a special New Hampshire Humanities To Go Program with its residents. The program, “That Reminds Me of A Story,” is presented by Rebecca Rule, N.H. storyteller and author. Members and guests are invited to bring a bag lunch; beverages and dessert will be provided. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. N.H. Humanities programs are free and open to the public.

■The Merrimack County Stamp Collectors will hold its monthly meeting at the Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South St., on Aug. 20 beginning at 1 p.m. We invite all who are interested in stamp collecting to attend, share their interest, buy, sell and trade. Meet other collectors, learn more about their hobby and enjoy the fellowship of others with varied interests in philatelic resources and issues. ■The Bow Garden Club is on hiatus until Sept. 9, when they will feature holistic dietitian Traci Kormorek as the meeting’s speaker. Tracey’s presentation will focus on whole body wellness. For information, please visit bowgardenclub.org.

DUNBARTON Old Home Day

Saturday is Old Home Day in Dunbarton! Events will begin at 10 a.m. on the town common. Enjoy crafts, food and games. The parade will be at 10:30 a.m. The book sale will be from 10 a.m. to noon in front of the library, with live music by the Nevers Second Regiment Band. From noon to 2 p.m., The Club Soda Band plays, and from 2 to 4 p.m., Barry Brearley will be there. Also, local musicians Jaydin Syversen and Matthew the Bagpiper will entertain. There will be free ice cream at 2 p.m. Admission is free, and it is a family event.

■During Old Home Day, visit Curios on the commons, across the street from the performances. You never know what treasure you’ll find.

■On Saturday, the Spireside Coffee House in Dunbarton Center will feature performer Zac Trojano. The show starts at 7 p.m. at the vestry. End Old Home Day with a celebration of the release of Zac’s most recent album, Wolf Trees. His performance will feature his smooth baritone voice supported by an old Martin guitar and low-tuned Weissenborn lap steel. His complex finger style technique was born out of country blues tradition and has been skillfully developed through years of immersion in the work of players as diverse as John Fahey, Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. Suggested donation is $5.

■The last summer chair yoga at the library will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 20. Wear comfortable clothes and bring water. There is a special outing planned for when you are finished.

■From 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 23, come to Women’s Game Night-Potluck. All are welcome for a night of food and fun in the vestry. Bring a dish or drink to share. Games are available, or bring your favorite game to teach others. Contact Stephanie Herlihy, Susan Johonnett or Lynn Leslie if you have questions or need a ride.

■The next Town Hall Concert Series will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 30. The Whispering Tree, Franco-American duo featuring singer/songwriter Eleanor Kleiner and multi-instrumentalist ElieBrangbour, will perform at the town hall. Donation is $20, or what you can afford.

■The Nature Photography of Aaron Treadwell is currently on display at the library through August.

■This month, the DCC book club is reading Great Emergence by Phyllis Tickle. The discussion will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Vestry. All are welcome.

■“Hillsborough History Alive” has a renactment from 10 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 18. Come and experience drama and excitement when 150 reenactors engage in important battles in the French and Indian, Revolutionary and Civil Wars on an outstanding site on Jones Road. The Historic Centre will host dozens of activities, performers and craftspeople as well as have great food by Roasted Root Café. Hopkinton Troop 77 will celebrate 100 years of service with a Centennial Picnic at the Kimball Lake Cabins on Aug. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. The celebration will begin with an opening ceremony at 3 p.m., followed by a flag retirement ceremony. WARNER Poetry workshop

Join former UNH English professor Deborah Brown 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at MainStreet BookEnds. Deborah will be offering a monthly poetry workshop. For now, the workshops are designed to combine lessons and exercises on aspects of craft – image, diction, metaphor – with a small amount of critique and in-group writing.
