■The work has begin to install the new water line beginning at Goboro Road and making its way along Route 4 into the traffic circle, and then onto Route 28 North (to the Country Cook’n at the Circle Restaurant). Most of the work will be performed during the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., off the roadway, but may cause some delays. This project will take about three months to complete. Please be aware that once work starts near the end of Goboro Road residents may want to seek an alternate route. At times there will be police detail and flaggers so please consider this when traveling through the area for the safety of those in the area.

■The Pembroke & Allenstown Old Home Day is Saturday. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on School Street, to Main Street and into Pembroke, to Broadway and down Pleasant Street to Memorial Field. All day celebration with food, pony rides, hay wagon rides, inflattables, crafts, entertainment, and more. Don’t miss the fantastic fireworks at dusk, thanks to Associated Grocers of New England.
■Pembroke and Allenstown Old Home Day Parade road closings: On Saturday, the Old Home Day Parade will cause the following streets to be closed from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m.: Letendre Avenue, Granite Street, Notre Dame Avenue and the road from Letendre Avenue to Sunset Hill Apartments. The following streets will have limited access: Dawn Avenue, Cross Street, Valley Street. During the parade from 10 to 11:15 a.m., these streets will be closed: Letendre Avenue, School Street, Main Street (from St John the Baptist Church to Broadway) and Pleasant Street.
■The Pembroke and Allenstown Old Home Day Committee has issued the following restrictions: All parade participants, including our local representatives, must be pre-registered to be included in the parade. Absolutely no “drop ins” and no political campaigning will be allowed in this year’s parade. Also, no pets and no smoking will be allowed at Memorial Field. ■On Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., the Pittsfield Historical Society will be presenting a program by Michael Bruno on New Hampshire’s Roadside Historical Markers. Michael’s program is geared towards the history of the New Hampshire Historical Marker program, how he came about the idea of the book and some local marker information specific to this area. He will have books available for sale and will be glad to autograph. Program will be on Elm Street.
■The members of The American Legion Peterson-Cram Post 75, Pittsfield, N.H., will hold their meeting on Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Post 42, Barnstead, N.H. This meeting will be of great importance as we will decide on what to do with our Post Home, located at 3 Loudon Rd in Pittsfield. This building has been our home for over 80 years and now is in disrepair. The roof and ceiling tiles need to be totally replaced, the wiring and plumbing need to be brought up to code. We need as many members of the Post as possible to attend this important meeting to discuss the future of where we will be in the future. We are most gracious to the leadership of Post 42 for allowing us to use their Post home for our meetings for over a year now and we will forever be thankful for their support. However, it is time for us to tend to our future.
■Joy Church will be having Church in the Park on Sunday at Drake Field. Church service in the park at 9:30 a.m. and cookout after. Bring lawn chairs, your own soft drinks for your family, and a dish to share – and bring a friend! Joy Church will provide hamburgers and hotdogs. Everyone is invited.
