Stingy Pilgrims

Hopkinton’s Robbie Ferguson and the New England College men’s soccer team picked up their third shutout in the last four games with a 4-0 win against Rivier University on Sunday.

Ferguson, a junior, needed to make a save just 18 seconds into the contest in Henniker. After that, he only had to make one more stop in 84 minutes of action. Ferguson has started all nine games for the Pilgrims (5-4-0) and is allowing just 1.18 goals per contest.

NEC, which has now won four straight games, took its first lead on Sunday late in the first half on a goal from John Stark grad Kyle Clements, a senior midfielder who has a team-high seven goals in the season. The Pilgrims extended that lead in the second half with goals from Enfield’s Tucker Stenger, Hooksett’s Alex Rust and Henniker’s Patrick Kalob, another Stark alum who scored his first career goal with just 40 seconds left in regulation.
