The Concord JV boys’ soccer team defeated Portsmouth, 1-0. Concord’s goal was scored by Carlos DeSouza. Cooper Reese played well on defense.
The Concord girls’ freshman soccer team defeated Bedford, 3-1. Olivia Crawford (goal), Ava Woodman (two goals), Megan Gamache (goalie), Kylie Harrison (defense) and Anna Tardiff (defense) led the Tide.
The Bow Memorial School field hockey team defeated Campton, 7-0.
■The Bow girls’ soccer team defeated Litchfield, 6-2. Lexi Insana scored four girls for Bow, while Maeve Nadzan and Anna Fellers played strong defense.
■The Merrimack Valley field hockey team defeated Milford, 3-0. Sarah Ostrowski worked hard in the midfield and Julia Michael played well on defense. Jules Guertin (goal, assist), Alyssa Brodeur (two goals) and Kaiya Mercier (two assists) led the offense.
James Hurlbot aced the 80-yard ninth hole at Duston’s Country Club using a 3-wood. Ed Gaunt witnessed the shot.
The Tilton School boys’ soccer team lost to Holderness, 2-0.
■Griffen Bono and Robert Martufi finished fifth and 14th respectively to lead the Tilton boys’ cross country team in a six-team race at Cardigan Mountain School. Gwen Lynch and Jessica Zhu finished 13th and 16th, respectively, in the girls’ race.
Concord’s Leah Dupuis was one of five different goal scorers for the Colby-Sawyer women’s soccer team (4-7) in a 5-1 victory over Rivier. Hopkinton’s Kasey Smith made eight saves for Rivier (2-5-2).
■Sarah Morin scored two goals to lift the Colby-Sawyer field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Becker. The victory improves the Chargers’ record to 5-5.
The New England College men’s soccer team lost to No. 2 Amherst College, 4-1. Hopkinton’s Robbie Ferguson made 13 saves in the losing effort. Tucker Stenger scored NEC’s goal in the 66th minute.
Alyosha Westbrook and Erik Armskog scored for the Plymouth State men’s soccer team (1-4-2) in a 2-2 tie with Southern Maine.
Hillsboro’s Izabella Warren, a freshman on the Simmons University women’s soccer team, scored the first goal for Simmons in a 3-2 double overtime loss to Regis College.

Co-ed Field Hockey Skills clinics are being offered at FieldHouse Sports in Bow. Beginners are encouraged. Next session begins Oct. 17 for grades 3-6. 16th Annual NHTI Basketball Coaching Clinic will be held at the Goldie Crocker Wellness Center on the NHTI campus in Concord on Oct. 20. Registration is $45 if registered by Tuesday, or $60 after that day. Coaching staff of three from the same school/program for $100 on or before Tuesday or for $110 after. Clinic topics include (are subject to change) defense to offense transition, developing offense, post play development, developing defensive core, rules interpretation, defending the pick and roll, and quick hitters. CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship tryouts will be held on Saturday at Sullivan Arena on St. Anselm’s College campus. Fire tryouts will be from 4-5 on Saturday. New Hampshire Tackles Hunger, organized by the New Hampshire Food Bank and WMUR-TV sportscaster Jamie Staton, are once again teaming up to help fight hunger during the high school football season. Fans are asked to bring canned food to specific games this fall as part of the state-wide food drive. The Hillsboro-Deering-Hopkinton drive will be during Saturday’s home game against Lebanon. Pembroke Academy will also hold its drive on Saturday for the game against Bow. John Stark rounds out the local drives on Oct. 11 for its game in Weare against Pembroke.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducting its second class on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The inductees include Kevin O’Brien, Dave Huckins and the 1989 Merrimack Valley boys’ basketball team. The public is welcome to attend.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame golf tournament will be held on Oct. 12 at Loudon Country Club. The cost is $400 per foursome, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, post-tournament meal and pre-tournament coffee and muffins.
New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization will induct six former basketball coaches into their first Hall of Fame class on Oct. 13 at The Red Blazer in Concord. New Hampshire Legends of Hockey 17th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be on Oct. 20 at the Grappone Conference Center, in Concord at 11:30 a.m. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include Denis Martin, Freddy Meyer and Deron Quint who are being inducted as players; longtime New England College bench boss Tom Carroll is being inducted as a coach; Rod Ross is being inducted in the media category; and the late Downing Potter “DP” Brown is being inducted posthumously as a builder. Ben Smith will be the keynote speaker. The hockey history of the Alpine Club, which competed in the Granite State Hockey League in the early to mid 60s will also be recognized.
