THE AMERICAN DREAM ain’t what it used to be. The Associated Press reports that “the gap between the haves and have-nots in the United States grew last year to its highest level in more than 50 years of tracking income inequality.” The New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute adds that in terms of purchasing power “individuals consistently making less than the median wage of $20.95 per hour in 2018 have experienced what feels like a pay cut.” The words of Eugene Debs still ring true: “Those who work hardest . . . have the least.” Our question of the week is this: What plan proposed at the state or national level do you believe would make the biggest dent in income and wealth inequality in New Hampshire? Email your response by noon on Tuesday, Oct. 8, to letters@cmonitor.com. Please keep it between 150 and 400 words, and include an address and phone number for verification. We’ll run a selection in next Thursday’s Forum section.
