JV results
The Concord JV girls’ soccer team (4-4-1) defeated Bedford, 1-0, with a Caroline Quirk goal off an assist from Sarah Potter. Lily Hillsgrove made some key saves in goal and Paige Cutting had a great game defensively.
■The Concord JV boys’ soccer team (6-3) lost to Bedford, 2-1. Carlos DeSouza scored Concord’s goal.
■The Hopkinton JV girls’ soccer team picked up a pair of wins this week, topping Bishop Brady, 4-1, and Merrimack Valley, 2-0.
■The John Stark JV field hockey team defeated Pembroke, 2-0. Riley Davis scored the first goal and Maria Hagar tallied the second, assisted by Lindsey Olson. Lydia Piscina earned her first shutout of the season.
The Bow Memorial School boys’ soccer team defeated Hopkinton, 4-1. Anthony Ray led the charge with a goal and an assist. Wes Michaelis, Kody McCranie and Sean Hoey added goals, while Brody O’Neil and Hunter Duncan had assists. Michaelis, Duncan and Elias Berrigan controlled the midfield. Aaron Barrieau was solid in net.
■The Hopkinton girls’ soccer team lost to South Meadow of Peterborough, 2-1. The Hawks got a goal from Lizz Holmes and had strong play from Paige Owens, Reese Bove and Maria Proulx.
Paige Rynne scored two goals to help the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team (1-1-1) tie St. Lawrence, 5-5. UNH rallied from a 3-1 deficit at the start of the second period with four unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes to take a 5-3 lead at the second intermission. The Saints (1-2-1) tied the game on two goals with an extra attacker. Carlee Turner, Meghara McManus and Emily Rickwood also scored for the Wildcats, while Tamara Thiérus had two assists.
■Isabelle Danahy scored the lone goal for the UNH field hockey team (5-5) in a 5-1 loss to Monmouth (6-4).

New Hampshire Tackles Hunger, organized by the New Hampshire Food Bank and WMUR-TV sportscaster Jamie Staton, are once again teaming up to help fight hunger during the high school football season. Fans are asked to bring canned food to specific games this fall as part of the state-wide food drive. The Hillsboro-Deering-Hopkinton drive will be during Saturday’s home game against Lebanon. Pembroke Academy will also hold its drive on Saturday for the game against Bow. John Stark rounds out the local drives on Oct. 11 for its game in Weare against Pembroke.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducting its second class on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The inductees include Kevin O’Brien, Dave Huckins and the 1989 Merrimack Valley boys’ basketball team. The public is welcome to attend.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame golf tournament will be held on Oct. 12 at Loudon Country Club. The cost is $400 per foursome, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, post-tournament meal and pre-tournament coffee and muffins.
New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization will induct six former basketball coaches into their first Hall of Fame class on Oct. 13 at The Red Blazer in Concord. Social hour will start at 1:30 p.m., followed by a buffet luncheon. The first class selected by the NHBCO includes: John Fagula (Nashua), Jack Ford (Winnacunnet), Gary Jenness (Groveton and White Mountains), Mike Lee (Farmington), Lang Metcalf (Lebanon) and Danny Parr (Portsmouth). New Hampshire Legends of Hockey 17th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be on Oct. 20 at the Grappone Conference Center, in Concord at 11:30 a.m. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include Denis Martin, Freddy Meyer and Deron Quint who are being inducted as players; longtime New England College bench boss Tom Carroll is being inducted as a coach; Rod Ross is being inducted in the media category; and the late Downing Potter “DP” Brown is being inducted posthumously as a builder. Ben Smith will be the keynote speaker. The hockey history of the Alpine Club, which competed in the Granite State Hockey League in the early to mid 60s will also be recognized. Co-ed Field Hockey Skills clinics are being offered at FieldHouse Sports in Bow. Beginners are encouraged. Next session begins Oct. 17 for grades 3-6. Clinics run on Thursday afternoons in five-week sessions and are coached by Rony Jacober, director of Summit Field Hockey and assistant coach at New England College. Cost is $65. 16th Annual NHTI Basketball Coaching Clinic will be held at the Goldie Crocker Wellness Center on the NHTI campus in Concord on Oct. 20. Registration is $45 if registered by Tuesday, or $60 after that day. Coaching staff of three from the same school/program for $100 on or before Tuesday or for $110 after. Clinic topics include (are subject to change) defense to offense transition, developing offense, post play development, developing defensive core, rules interpretation, defending the pick and roll, and quick hitters. Cost of registration includes snacks, lunch, handouts and door prizes. Clinics are designed for coaches at college, high school, middle school and youth levels. Enrollment is limited. Soccer Skills and Goalkeeper clinics at FieldHouse Sports Indoor Facility in Bow are now open for registration. Tryouts/Registrations
CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship tryouts will be held on Saturday at Sullivan Arena on St. Anselm’s College campus. The game will be held on March 13, 2020 at SNHU Arena in Manchester between police officers and firefighters from across the region to raise money for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD). Fire tryouts will be from 4-5 on Saturday. Police tryouts at 3:15-4:15 p.m. on Saturday. All interested skaters must register for tryouts and bring their own equipment, water, and necessary gear. Tune-up Basketball League in Meredith is open for registrations for boys and girls in grades 6-10. The league is open to players from area towns and space is limited. The nine-game schedule begins on Oct. 19, runs through Nov. 9 and all contests are played at Inter-Lakes Elementary School.
