This fall, young readers will have three new books to enjoy by New England authors. Two of them released with perfect timing ahead of the winter season (Christmas gift – hint, hint?).

Adi Rule, daughter of storyteller and humorist Rebecca Rule, will be releasing a middle-reader level novel, Hearts of Ice, on Sept. 3 with Scholastic.

The story is of Evangeline who has been kept inside for most of her life by her mother, especially when it’s snowing. However, one night during a storm her window blows open and she discovers a message written in the snow.

The message points her to a long-lost twin and ancient magic in another land.

Maine author Valerie Egan and illustrator Tamara Campeau will also be releasing a wintery tale this fall. Oh No! Reindeer Flu will be released Oct. 3 by publishers Whistle Oak.

The picture book tells of a Christmas when all the reindeer – even Rudolph! – get the flu. Santa looks to several options to get the gifts around the world. Ultimately, its the North Pole huskies who save Christmas.

Dover author K.M. Doherty’s will release the conclusion of the fantasy Thomas Holland trilogy on Oct. 31.

In Thomas Holland and Pandora’s Portal, Tom, Avani, and Goban will try to prevent an evil wizard from opening Pandora’s Portal, which would destroy the age of light, wizards, and dragons. Can they stop the world from plunging into an age of darkness, demons, and life-force sucking creatures?
