Franklin VNA and Hospice recently joined with the Franklin High School Band to go caroling at four long-term care centers, and one of them, Peabody Home, was the excited recipient of a handmade Christmas card for each resident from the Gilford Elementary School Learners.
Franklin VNA & Hospice approached the school to see if their prolific kindergarten artists would like to create holiday cards for patients. The school was excited to participate, and every kindergartener created a special card to give to a patient.
Kidshelpingkids.org notes 15 benefits from volunteering, including improvements in self-esteem, building community and reducing loneliness.
Imagine if everyone who could, did this. Imagine that every resident in a long term care center got a handmade card, just for them. That they might be inspired to create a card in return, which could develop into a friendship or inspire them to reach out to others. As Kris Kringle said in Miracle on 34th Street, โOh, Christmas isnโt just a day, itโs a frame of mind.โ So hereโs to the kindergarten learners at Gilford Elementary School, Peabody Home and Franklin VNA & Hospice. Kris Kringle would be proud.
