Leadership Lakes Region recently conducted its annual Political Issues Day during which a variety of speakers, panel discussions and tours illuminated some of the forces at work on New Hampshire’s political scene. Leading off the day was a presentation by Laconia’s new mayor, Andrew Hosmer, titled, “One Volunteer’s Perspective on Getting Involved in Politics.” The mayor was followed by a panel of a Belknap County commissioner, town administrator of Gilford and city manager of Laconia. Hunter Taylor, Scott Dunn and Scott Myers explained each of their roles and how their offices frequently interact. The leadership group then headed to Concord for a tour of the State House and met Sens. Harold French and Bob Giuda; Neil Levesque of the N.H. Institute of Politics based at St. Anselm College; Executive Councilor Michael Cryans; David Scanlan, deputy director of the N.H. Secretary of State’s Office; and Prof. Richard Padova of Northern Essex Community College.
