Bernie Sanders will get my vote in the New Hampshire primary. With his hands waving, his shoulders humped for emphasis and his face contorting with passion, isn’t this 78-year-old candidate something?

As is needed, it seems he has what it takes to turn America inside-out, and if he accomplishes only half of what he sets out to do, we will all be for the better. I am struck the most by Sanders’s sincerity. In this respect, he is not like your typical politician, who says one thing but means another.

George McGovern comes to mind. But whereas the 1972 Democratic candidate for president was sincere, he lacked judgment. Sanders has both. Even if it’s a stretch to think he can turn things around to the extent he says he can, wouldn’t you like to see him try?

To think of it: The top one-tenth of 1% paying – as it should – for the reforms we so much need. Free education, health care for all, an answer to student debt, and bringing the drug and insurance companies to their knees. If Bernie says he can do it, through the sheer persuasion and determination distinctly a part of his message, you believe he can.

I also like Sanders’s unfettered optimism. To listen to him speak is to believe in the very things he touts, as if for him to articulate his goals is the selfsame thing as reaching them.

I’m a believer. I’m for Bernie – heart attack and socialism and all.
