An unattended candle is responsible for causing a house fire on North State Street late Wednesday night that displaced a family, Concord fire officials said.

The second floor of the home at 201 N. State St. sustained heavy damage in the blaze, which was reported at about 9:15 p.m., Concord Deputy Fire Chief Aaron McIntire said.

Despite the damage to the single-family home, there were no reported injuries in the first-alarm fire. All residents were reported safely out of the home by the time crews arrived at the scene.

The first firefighters to the area observed flames and smoke from the second floor, McIntire said. However, firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze, preventing any further extension into a nearby business, he said.

Because some Concord resources were committed to other emergency incidents at the time of the fire, additional towns were called to the Capital City to assist. In addition to Concord, firefighters from Allenstown, Bow, Boscawen, Hopkinton, Hooksett and Pembroke responded to the fire on North State Street. Penacook Rescue was also on scene to assist and provide coverage to the city while the firefight was ongoing.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 11:30 p.m.

McIntire said the residents are staying with family or friends as the home is uninhabitable at this time.
