A Webster man convicted in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian in Franklin will be on probation for the next two years.

Kevin Muzzey will not serve any additional jail time in connection with the crash on Franklin’s Central Street in early 2019. As part of a plea deal, he was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for 114 days already served while awaiting the resolution of his case. All but those 114 days of his sentence were suspended for five years on conditions of good behavior, according to a Merrimack County Superior Court order.

Muzzey’s sentencing Friday on a felony count of conduct after an accident came one year after the Feb. 27, 2019, crash that seriously injured Edward Douglas, a Franklin resident. Police said at the time that Douglas, 53, was found lying in the road on Central Street after being hit by a car while attempt to cross. He was taken by ambulance to Concord Hospital for treatment.

The driver fled the scene, prompting a search by authorities for a 2011 Mazda 6, which was seen in security footage around the time of the crash. Police said they determined the make and color of the car through witness interviews. The car was described to be missing a large piece of the bumper on the passenger side, as well as damage to the passenger-side mirror.

The car was later located at Muzzey’s Webster home, where people executed a search warrant in connection with their investigation.

Thereafter, police issued a warrant for Muzzey’s arrest. He turned himself in to police on May 7, more than two months after the crash.

By phone Monday, Assistant Merrimack County Attorney Wayne Coull declined to comment on Douglas’s recovery since the crash. He said Douglas was contacted during plea negotiations and his input considered as part of the case’s resolution.
