A $1,000 Bow Garden Club scholarship is currently available for a graduating Bow High School senior who is entering college and is planning on majoring in any of the following fields: horticulture, conservation, environmental science, forestry, plant science, geoscience, hydrology, atmospheric science or meteorology. Students should include an essay stating his/her educational goals and describing any activities related to these goals. In addition, two letters of recommendation from current high school teachers/counselors and a transcript must be provided. The recipient of this scholarship will be announced at the annual Bow High School Senior Awards Night held prior to graduation. Application forms may be obtained through BHS or bowgardenclub.org. The Bow Garden Club will not ย be holding the Dough Fundraiser at Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill that was originally planned for April 30.

DUNBARTONAccess Ancestry at home

โ– Town offices are currently closed to walk-in business until further notice. Office staff will be available on-site to handle transactions by telephone, email or mail. If you require direct face-to-face assistance please call to schedule an appointment. Check dunbartonnh.org/ for updates.

โ– The Dunbarton Transfer Station will accept trash only until further notice. No recycling and no electronics will be accepted. Residents will be responsible for handling all disposable materials. The Swap Shop will be closed, but the brush pile remains open.

โ– All in-person activities have been canceled at the Dunbarton Congregational Church. This includes worship, Bible Study, Coffee House, Curios on the Common and all meetings. If you find yourself needing something please contact Pastor Robert Vodra at robertvodra@gmail.com or call the church. If he is not there, his cell number is on the answering machine and is able to receive phone calls and texts. The church has a food pantry for the community and can certainly help you out if you are in need.

โ– For a limited time, AncestryLibrary Edition is available from home. Log in to your account with your card number and PIN. Storytime For Toddlers is online. Author Dan Szczesny and filmmaker Bill Millios, of Back Lot Films, have teamed up to produce a 40-minute documentary based on Szczesnyโ€™s 2018 book The White Mountain. โ– In April, the DCC Book Club will be reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. The club plans to have its discussion on May 7, in person or on Zoom.

โ– The Police Department has reduced its in-person contacts while continuing to provide the services the community needs. Please try to conduct business with staff over the phone or by email whenever possible. DPD will respond to in-progress emergencies as always and will continue to respond to medical calls, but may respond differently depending upon the circumstances. A paperwork drop box has been installed next to the front door at the police station for residents. Individuals can quickly and securely drop off paperwork. HENNIKER / WEAREWhite Birch has masks available

โ– A waiver by the State of N.H. and the USDA last week was approved allowing schools to offer meals to all children under the age of 18 free of charge. Specifics of how the free meal program works at the Henniker Community School, John Stark Regional High School, Weare Middle School, Center Woods Upper Elementary School and Center Woods Elementary School is available on the SAU 24 website at sau24.org.

โ– Wednesday is the new deadline for Henniker Rotary Scholarships. Interested students should go to rotaryโ€™s website, fill out the application and mail it to the club.

โ– Monica Rio’s Meals for Henniker is delivering boxes of groceries once a week to 53 households serving over 170 residents. You can help her with this much-needed project by going to its GoFundMe page and make a donation.

โ– Thanks to White Birch Active Living participants who are making masks. If you need one they have a supply in a tote on the White Birch porch.

โ– Henniker Community Clean Up Week, sponsored by the Henniker Chamber of Commerce, starts Monday and runs through April 26. ย Pick up free blue bags at the Transfer Station, fill them up with trash on the roads and leave them on the side of the road. Please respect social distancing.

โ– Henniker’s town meeting is now set for May 9. More details to follow.

โ– Warner Area Food Pantry is in dire need of monetary donations so the pantry can purchase needed foods and dry goods. Checks are to be made out to Warner Area Food Pantry, and mailed to c/o Warner CAP, 49 West Main Street, Warner 03278. ย Checks can also be left at MainStreet BookEnds Monday through Saturday. Just honk from the parking lot and let the staff know you are there.

โ– MainStreet BookEnds has closed off the building to the public, but is providing curb-side service Wednesday through Friday, 1 to 7 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These match the curbside hours for the Warner Public Market next door. Call or email your requests and your orders will be brought to you in your car. Anyone wishing to make donations of books and toys to Simonds Elementary School families in need can call the store and purchase gift certificates. The store is coordinating with the teachers to meet the needs of each student. You can also purchase gift certificates/care packages for your friends and neighbors. Pick them up at the store or they can be shipped. Letโ€™s get creative and think outside the box!
