■There was an article in the Monitor last Sunday titled ‘Bow ahead of pack in filling out census.’ It listed nearby towns and cities and the percentage of people that have filed their census forms. Do you wonder where Webster is? I did. Well, as the article said Bow is ahead with 77.7% of people who have filed. Not far behind are Dunbarton at 75.7%, Bedford at 77.2%, and Stratham at 77%. Where is Webster? We are at 67%, which isn’t bad considering the bottom of the pack is Andover at 46.9% completed. Can we do better? Of course we can, and we will!
■Don’t forget the Town Clerk is now located at the Safety Building. She is open for regular hours as before. If you go into the Safety Building be sure to wear your mask to keep everyone who works there safe.
■While you are at the Safety Building, drop off something for the food bank. There is a bin in the lobby, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pantry is looking for almost any food or cleaning product.
■The next meeting of the Webster Free Public Library Trustees will be on Wednesday at 4 p.m. If you would like to join, call the teleconference number, 1-425-436-6362. At the prompt, type in 455735#. Everyone is welcome.
■The next book in the Webster Free Public Library book group is Kim Michele Richardson’s novel, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, tells us about a Depression-era Works Progress Administration program to bring books to isolated Appalachian households via packhorses. The heroine of the story is the Packhorse Librarian, who also suffered from methemoglobinemia, a genetic disease that resulted in bluish skin. In this story, we learn about the backbreaking work of the librarians, the crushing poverty of Appalachia, dangerous labor union work and color prejudice. The book is available both in eBook and audiobook format through Hoopla. Discussion will be on May 28 at 7:15 p.m. Details will be posted a few days before the meeting.
