Franklin Cemetery meeting

The Franklin Cemetery annual meeting will be held June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Franklin Cemetery, 31 Thompson Park. The meeting will be for the purpose of electing officers for the coming year and transact any other business.

Barnstead Farmers market opens

Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., celebrate the 5th annual opening of the Barnstead Farmers Market on the corner of Route 28 and Maple Street in Center Barnstead. The grand opening will feature Chris Bonoli, our favorite musician, and free shopping bags. We will have lots of veggie, herb and flower plants for sale, maple lattes, delicious baked goods, maple syrup, local meats, eggs and so much more. As the season develops, our market will offer a wonderful variety of market goods such as vegetables, honey, jams and jellies, delicious baked goods, beautiful flowers, homemade and unique crafts. New this year will be fresh fish from the N.H. Community Seafood Co-op. Pre-orders are made on line one week in advance no later than Friday the week before for Saturday delivery. Several farmers will be sharing in the duties every week selling their products under one tent. We accept MC/Visa and are a participating member of the food stamp program accepting EBT and offering matching dollars. The market will be following certain guidelines recommended by the Department of Agriculture and UNH Coop Extension. Facemasks and gloves will be provided for those who want them. A sanitizer station will have hand sanitizer for use. The bathrooms will have disinfectant and everyone is asked to please disinfect after each use. There will be an entrance and exit setup up with signs suggesting 6 feet social distancing from shoppers. Vendors are recommended to bag the products using a one-time use bag for each customer or customers can bring reusable bags and can bag their own products. Concord Scholarship winners

The Womanโ€™s Club of Concord awarded four scholarships on May 28 at their virtual annual meeting. Scholarship awards are given to outstanding female high school seniors who demonstrate strong academic achievement, have outstanding extra-curricular activities in both school and community, and are pursuing higher education. This yearโ€™s recipients are Ana Belle Goble, Madison Smith, and Jillian Zube from Concord High School and Concord resident Hope Talwani from Tilton School.

Franklin Elks pay it forward

The Franklin Elks Lodge 1280 used the gratitude grant of $2,000 they received to support three community organizations. The Franklin TRIP Center were given $750 to support the senior Meals on Wheels program. The Franklin VFW were given $500 for the veterans lunch program, which provides meals twice a week to local veterans. The Franklin Middle School lunch program received $750 to support meals delivered by bus to studentsโ€™ homes.

Henniker Zoom into summer

The Learning Institute of New England College is offering its summer classes for seniors and older adults via Zoom this year. For those new to Zoom, no worries, instructions will be provided on how to join in before classes begin. Classes will be in July and the fee is $15 to participate in however many classes you wish.
