■The library has started its summer reading program. Every child that signs up will receive a backpack. There is also a writing contest for various age groups. There will be a weekly story time on Facebook. Stop in or call the library to sign up and get complete details.

■The First Congregational Church, 24 Main St., will host Ross Nickerson, a Christian musician, on Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. A banjo master and founder of Grace Jam, Ross is also a recording artist, instructor and music book author. He has performed and taught banjo throughout the world and is now pursuing a more significant musical passion: sharing faith through music. A love offering will be collected. Please follow all social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. Enter through the front doors, although you may park in the church’s parking lot. Those with disabilities may use the parking lot door. ■The Infant Toddler Diaper Pantry through the First Congregational Church will be open on Tuesday with new guidelines in place for the time being. The pantry will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Please call 435-7471 when you arrive in the parking lot. Clients will not be able to enter the church at this time. Weather permitting, staff will place your diapers and wipes in a bag with your name attached and place it on a table in the parking lot. If weather does not permit this, your products will be brought to you. Please use the parking lot off Chestnut Street. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to navigate through this pandemic.
■The Josiah Carpenter Library/Pittsfield Senior Center Book Club will gather on July 28 at 10 a.m. at the Town Beach area to talk about the books members are currently reading. ■The Pittsfield Historical Society continues to raise funds for the new museum and headquarters. A commemorative garden on the museum grounds is being worked on. A “Buy-A-Brick” project affords an opportunity for people to buy a brick to honor yourself, loved ones or whomever you wish to remember. The bricks will be sold for $100 each and may be engraved with three lines of 18 characters each for a 4-inch by 8-inch brick. Please visit pittsfieldhistory.com for a donation form and instructions. ■Parents, if you are looking for something fun for your kids, stop by the Fire Station and pick up a fire prevention goodie bag. There are no fire station tours for the kids at this time, but hopefully those can resume in the near future.
■The Pittsfield Food Pantry is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. at 55 Barnstead Road.
■The Josiah Carpenter Library summer reading program has begun! The theme for this summer’s reading program is “Imagine your Story.” Visit the library from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday or Thursday to learn more and pick up packets. A new story will be posted on Facebook every Monday with fun activities, crafts, and prizes! Come and join the fun! The summer program is for preschool through sixth grade. A younger aged craft and an older STEM craft is also available for pick up at the library.

■Pittsfield Youth Workshop summer registration is open. At this time only outdoor activities are planned, two days a week from 1 to 5 p.m. Virtual programs will continue on Wednesdays. Register at pittsfieldyouthworkshop.org. PYW staff will confirm your registration with a phone call several days before the program. There is a limited number of spaces per activity, but there will be a waiting list. A new schedule of activities will be emailed every two weeks.
■Congratulations to the 2020 Citizen of the Year: Cedric Dustin III. He has committed the last 36 years of his life serving the town of Pittsfield in many ways. Cedric has served as town moderator, budget committee chairman, Pittsfield Historical Society president, rotarian and is the current treasurer of the Pittsfield Center Development Corporation, to name a few. The traditional Old Home Day parade has been cancelled for this year, but a car parade is being planned in the coming weeks with Cedric in the lead. More information to come! Congratulations to Dr. Dustin; thank you for all you have done to make Pittsfield a better place to live!
