Generosity grows

The Finance Committee of the Concord High School class of 1953 announced today that classmates have raised over $4,000 for scholarships to graduating seniors.  The class has met annually since 2003 and has provided scholarships every year since.  A first single award of $500 has gradually expanded.  For many years the donations have increased and two gifts of $1,000 each have been awarded.  This past year the awards numbered three.

The class reunion is usually held the third Wednesday of August, but this year’s gathering was canceled due to the pandemic.  Classmates will be informed in a timely way as to when the reunions will be resumed.

The committee was gratified by the response this year of the no in-person reunion.  Treasurer Freda Spiro has reported that this year’s gifts totaled $4,210.  The Concord School District and Business Manager Jack Dunn manage the fund and distribute the awards in the early summer.  Rae McBride chairs the committee and Betty Hoadley serves as the liaison between the class and Concord School District staff members.

Members of the Guidance Department at the high school screen the applicants and recommend recipients to the donors.  Steve Rothenberg, vice-principal at the high school oversees that process.  So Thanks a Million to the school district personnel who provide these important services.  And Thanks a Million to the members of the class of 1953 for their generosity over these many years.
