It’s time – time to take down all our 2020 Republican and Democratic campaign signs. We’ve counted the votes. We know who won the election. It’s time to move on.
For over 100 years, New Hampshire has held the first-in-the-nation primary, so the state wields significant influence in national elections. Before I moved here, I envied the voting power of Granite Staters, and after moving here, I’ve come to admire the political involvement and civic pride of my fellow New Hampshire citizens. All over the state, Biden/Harris signs live next door to Trump/Pence signs as neighbors promote their competing candidates.
Since New Hampshire leads the nation by holding the first primary, shouldn’t we also lead the nation by being the first to put away our signs and move on? It’s time to work together to address the pressing problems facing us today.
Even though we may not be able to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas this year with family and friends the way we’d like, we can still embrace the spirit of the holidays. Let’s share our thankfulness for life in a beautiful state, for a governor who listens to public health experts, for senators and congressional leaders who fight for our health care, environment, education, and economic recovery. And let’s honor the words of the man whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”
