I would like to set the record straight regarding one of my votes during the Jan. 6 House session.
There was a motion to suspend House rules to allow for a vote on a House resolution condemning the violence that was taking place at our Capitol in Washington, D.C. Before the motion was read, my radio was interrupted by an emergency phone call regarding my mother. I had not yet heard about the assault on our Capitol building, and because of the phone call, I had missed what the resolution was regarding.
Due to these circumstances, the vote I took was a mistake, and I have taken steps to correct the error. Although the vote itself cannot be changed after the fact, the House journal, when it is printed, will reflect the intention of my vote.
I would like to make it clear that I do not support any of the violence that occurred on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., and there can be absolutely zero tolerance for the mob violence that has unfortunately become all to common.
