Regarding the Jan. 25 “My Turn” by Rep. Len Turcotte headlined, “ ‘What is it with you Yanks and your guns?’ ”: During Rep. Turcotte’s discussion with a British musician about whether the “Brit” would rather play in a gun-free bar which risked invading jihadist terrorists with swords and knives or play in a gun-welcoming bar with the same risk, the musician “reluctantly” chose the gun-welcoming bar. I would offer the strong possibility that at this point in the conversation, the “Brit” likely realized the lunacy of the choices offered and went along to tactfully end a nutty conversation. Sword and knife-wielding jihadists can likely be taken down with chairs and tables without having multitudes possibly killed by stray bullets. Can you say the same of the other choice? People with guns – especially in pubs – would certainly not fare much better.
Back in 1776, we were at war. How is that a logical analogy to bearing arms on the street in the 21st century? The efforts by Republicans to insist on guns for all is about the children, and everyone else. And, sorry, but it is about your illogical, rigid, radical-right wing ideology. Rep. Steve Shurtleff was right on.
