WEST SIDE Leaf collections starts Monday

■The City of Concord’s spring leaf collection is planned to begin Monday and run through June 5. Concord residents who currently participate in the curbside trash collection program are eligible for the spring leaf collection program. Materials are collected weekly for several weeks and must be curbside by 7 a.m. on the same day as your regular trash is collected. Residents have two options for pick-up: 1) yard waste is placed curbside in paper yard waste bags which are available at local stores or 2) yard waste is placed curbside in 30-gallon barrels weighing less than 50 pounds clearly marked as “yard waste.” No plastic bags containing yard waste will be collected.For more information, visit concordnh.gov/leafcollection.

■On Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., join members of Concord Community Music School’s jazz, folk and South Asian classical music faculty for “Common Ground: Weaving Nepali & American Musical Traditions.” This virtual program of compositions and improvisations, sponsored by the Walker Lecture Series in partnership with the music school, reflects the five artists’ musical traditions and their adventuresome spirit. ■Reserve your spot now, as space is limited, at the Pope Memorial SPCA low-cost vaccinations clinic on May 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. The online form must be completed and sent in before the appointment. Bring your cats, dogs and ferrets for rabies vaccination ($20), microchip ($25), kennel cough vaccine ($15) and distemper vaccine ($15). Proof of past rabies vaccinations is needed to determine if your pet needs a one- or three-year vaccine. Cats must be safely in carriers and dogs on leashes. ■The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its Leadership Greater Concord Class of 2022. This program fosters civic awareness in the community and participants are equipped with information they need in order to become more involved in activities that will enhance the region. ■The cozy and inviting “Book Nook” in the lower level of Hilltop Consignment (56 North Main St.) is bursting at the seams with donated used books from all genres. Come in and find books to read to pass the time away through this pandemic and these cold winter months. Books are buy one, get one free (the least expensive book is free). Proceeds from the sale of these books benefit scholarships for women through the Zonta Club of Concord, a local nonprofit whose mission is to empower women through service and advocacy. Hilltop hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

■The Songweavers Women’s Chorus of Concord Community Music School celebrates 30 years of singing together on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a virtual spring concert entitled “Joy!” This performance will include interview clips with some women who have sung with the group since the beginning, a poem written for the occasion, a retrospective slide show, a virtual choir and some sing-alongs. With special guest Carolyn Parrott, the founding director of Songweavers, the program will include songs that span from the very first season to songs written to celebrate this momentous anniversary.
