ExeterVirtual talk with people of color

“Seeking to Understand the Lives of People of Color From Their Perspective” is an invitation to book lovers to learn about Black, Brown, Asian and Indigenous authors of fiction. A Fireside Chat on May 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., will be offered virtually by a panel on a Zoom program. Teachers, parents, and students are especially invited to join in this public presentation. Panelists include Laura Horwood, Public Programming and Community Relations Librarian; Wei-Ling Woo, English Instructor and Asian Student Program Coordinator, Phillips Exeter Academy; Katie Czajkowski, Special Collections Librarian, Portsmouth Public Library; and Rev. Robert Thompson, Racial Unity Team Board of Directors. The speakers will talk about authors of color, recommending writers they like, and guide viewers in learning from the emotional, intellectual and cultural experiences of non-white writers. During a Q & A part of the program, viewers will be able to ask questions and also highlight authors of color they have enjoyed. In conjunction with this Racial Unity Team event, special displays of books by authors of color will be presented by the Exeter Public Library and Water Street Bookstore. Resource lists of books and films will be posted at the time of the May 19 Fireside Chat. Registration for this event is required by going online to RacialUnityTeam.com, and locating the registration link.
