Concord city worker Ed Bisson sets up the voting booths at Ward 8 at the Bektash Shrine Center on Pembroke Road in Concord on Friday morning, September 4, 2020 in anticipation of Tuesday's primary voting.

The filing period to run for Concord elected positions begins Friday.

On the city side, candidates can file to run for mayor, all 10 ward councilor positions and two of the city’s four at-large City Council seats.

Ward Five City Councilor Rob Werner and Ward Six City Councilor Linda Kenison have announced that they are not running for re-election this fall.

On the school side, candidates can file for three at-large seats on the school board, as well as a school board clerk and a district treasurer position.

The filing period will end at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.

The three seats on the school board are all city-wide at-large positions, meaning candidates can live in districts A, B or C. Current at-large board members Barb Higgins, Danielle Smith and Pamela Walsh all have terms ending Dec. 31 of this year.

Walsh, who is still in her first year serving on the board, said she plans to run for re-election. Walsh was elected last fall to take over and finish the final year of a three-year term that was started by a former board member who resigned in August 2020.

“I think we have continued work to do,” Walsh said last week. “I am hopeful kids will be safely in school full-time this year, I think we have to remain focused on how we help kids and families with academics, but also emotionally.”

Neither Higgins nor Smith have announced their plans.

Concord residents will vote on Election Day, Nov. 2, and winners will begin their terms on Jan. 1, 2022.

The terms of school board clerk Roger Phillips and district treasurer Clint Cogswell are also ending this year. Phillips, who has served as clerk since 1985, has said he will not be seeking re-election.

There are also open positions for city officials in each ward, including ward moderators, ward clerks and one supervisor of the checklist.

The filing fee for mayor, city council and school board positions is $5, and $1 for ward positions. Candidates must file with the respective city or school district clerk during regular business hours.
