Twenty-four high school students from the Concord Region Technical Center (CRTC) will gain work experience in the field of orthopedic technology through a unique Orthopedic Technology Career Pathways program. Funded by grants from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, and offered by NHTI, this program offers hands-on experience in a high-demand field. This year’s program began with a special event, organized by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, for students to meet and ask questions to industry leaders.
The Career Pathways kick-off event was held at HRKNSScowork’s state-of-the-art conference space. Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce president, Tim Sink, welcomed this year’s class of orthopedic students, and facilitated a panel of five distinguished speakers: Beth Slepian, president/CEO of Granite VNA; Michael Palmieri, president/CEO, and Linda Sheehy, vice president of human resources, of Havenwood Heritage Heights; Tracie Ruggles, RN-MSN-ONC, nurse educator, of Dartmouth-Hitchcock. The speakers discussed career opportunities for certificate and associate degree graduates, and expressed their excitement at meeting a room of dedicated young medical professionals.
To participate in this program, students must be enrolled in the Medical Terminology course at CRTC. This is one of many courses in CRTC’s Health Science program, which allows high school sophomores and juniors to earn college credits, certifications and gain valuable work experience. Program graduates achieve higher education degrees faster than other students, and have a deep understanding of the career they are entering. They also build a professional network in the region, which allows them to easily find jobs and other opportunities in the area.
The Orthopedic Technology Career Pathways program is presented by Concord Orthopaedics, the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and NHTI.
