Thanks to a recent $275,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant (“City receives grant to extend Merrimack River Greenway Trail,” Monitor, Nov. 25), the City of Concord is planning to add a ¾-mile riverfront stretch to the Merrimack River Greenway Trail – right across the river from downtown. The grant will cover half of the $550,000 estimated cost of construction. Raising the other half will rely on the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations.
Friends of the Merrimack River Greenway Trail (FMRGT), an all-volunteer non-profit organization founded in 2011 to assist the City of Concord in its development the MRGT, has enjoyed incredible community support from more than 350 individuals and local businesses who recognize the social, environmental, and recreational opportunities this trail will bring to Concord.
Residents and businesses of Concord and surrounding communities can support the goal by making a tax-deductible contribution to the trail in 2021 or 2022. Every contribution will go toward extending Concord’s very own river trail.
